Up to 4 million people visit dealnews every month to stay up-to-date on the latest deals. dealnews is primarily read by men, ages 18-35, who are passionate about gadgets and technology. Most dealnews readers make an online purchase every three days or less.
Title: Copy Editor
dealnews.com is seeking an in-house copy editor for our frequently updated site. The ideal candidate possesses at least 3 years of copyediting or proofreading experience, meticulous attention to detail, a related degree (Journalism and/or English), and knowledge of SQA.
The copy editor will be responsible for maximizing the quality of our publication. The chief responsibility is to check for misspellings, adherence to style, diction, and factual errors in all content. Other responsibilities include content management, moderation of reader comments, testing new features, moving or removing expired or underperforming content, and working with our editorial and R&D teams. This includes editing hundreds of small articles a day, so flexibility and ability to turn around copy on tight deadlines is mandatory.
The candidate must be able to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and have extremely strong computer skills. Preferred candidates will have an encyclopedic knowledge of retail products (especially tech), heavy online shopping experience, data analysis skills, and “merchandizing” – the ability to quickly assess the value proposition of a given product at a given price. Blogging and web development are a plus, as is a sense of humor, and familiarity with topics of interest to 18 to 34 year-old men and women.
